Why you don’t need Feminism

I read a post by Sarah Moon, “Feminism Fest: I need feminism because there is no love without justice”, and was deeply troubled by her claim to need feminism. In short, she stated feminism was a “movement that fights for justice for women,” and this cause gave her the ability to love the men in and around her life. Feminism freed her from her fear of oppressive men who “continually hurt” her because it brought justice, which in turn brought her love.

The problem with feminism is that it is a cause people turn to rather than turning to God and His Word. God preserves the rights of the oppressed. God preserves for the rights of women. He is against rape and abuse and does not blame victims for the sins of the criminal (Duet. 22:25). Women want equality, justice, and freedom, but that cannot be found through any human cause.

The Lord God Almighty is the God of justice, the only one who can and will free you to love.

Now there is nothing wrong with equality, justice, or freedom, but feminism is incapable of providing these things.

Take equality- feminists strive to make men and women equal in society with equal jobs and equal pay. They want to prove to the world that women are just as good as men, declaring from their pede

stals, “Anything you can do, I can do better!” In this quest for equality, however, they actually say the very opposite. Equal becomes synonomous with identical. of proving that women are just as valuable as men, they prove men are superior, and all women should strive to be like men, getting the same education they get, doing all the jobs they do. This is not equality.

True equality comes from Christ: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”- Galations 3:28″ (emphasis mine)

If two things are equal in value and worth, do they have to be the same. Is salt any better than pepper? Of course not. Their differences benefit one another; they do not make one superior to the other. Pepper alone does not add sufficient flavor to a meal- it needs salt. But salt alone has no kick, no spiciness in itself- it needs pepper. Why do you think they’re always seen together?

Feminism cannot provide justice, either.

Feminists are people, human beings with sinful hearts, just like everyone else, and as such, they are powerless to give anyone justice. Yes, they can raise awareness of the injustices in our society; they can protest; they can demand justice. But in the end, they are only calling attention to the injustices, not stopping them.

There is only one who can bring justice: “Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgement, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.” (emphasis mine)

It is He, the Almighty, who can bring justice, because He has the power to bring justice, and delights in being a “refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.” (Psalms 9:9) On Him, whose habitation is of justice and judgement (Psa. 89:14), we can completely trust to bring justice to afflicted. We should not trust mere people to do that which God promises  to do Himself (Psa. 146:7)

And feminist justice will not free you to love.

Feminists hope the justice and equality their cause brings, will free them from fear and hatred and allow them to love. But since a cause cannot deliver true justice, hatred and fear still imprison souls. Love finds no soil good enough to blossom amongst anger, anxiety, suspicion.

The reason for this: love is not the result of freedom, but rather means to be freed. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear:” (1 John 4:18)  Freedom does not enable you to love.  Love is what frees you, not the other way around.

The God of the Bible is THE God of love (1 John 4:8). When He saves you through His Son’s sacrifice on the cross, He gives you the freedom to love those who hate you, bless those who curse you and pray for those who persecute you (Matt. 5:44). In fact, He commands His people to love their enemies . He commands this because of the love He showered over undeserving sinners, His own enemies, in sending Christ to save our souls from eternal hell. (Rom. 8:8,10; 1 John 4:10) This is why we can love others- because of God’s love.

No one needs feminsim, or any other cause. The Lord of heaven and earth, the only just God, the one who can free your soul, He is sufficient. He brings justice to the oppressed and freedom to the captive. Through His love, because of His love, you can love.
